Adenocarcinoma is a form of cancer that occurs in the mucus-secreting glands lining the insides of your organs. These glandular cells are found in tissue across different parts of the body, including the lungs, colon, pancreas, prostate, breast, and gastrointestinal tract. Over time, cancerous cells develop and result in tumor growth and then spread to other organs. Because adenocarcinoma cancer occurs in various locations of the body, specific cases and mortality rates are difficult to approximate. Needless to say, it’s the primary form of many types of cancer related to specific locations such as those mentioned above. Further, attempting to paint the typical victim of Adenocarcinoma would be a pointless affair. While some individuals may be more susceptible to this illness compared to others, anyone can get cancer. When this happens, cancer cells can move through the bloodstream or lymphatic system and spread to other parts of the body.
This process is known as metastatic cancer. In some cases, doctors may describe the condition as metastatic adenocarcinoma, especially when the cancer that starts in one organ has traveled to distant parts of the body. How Cancer Grade Can Affect Adenocarcinoma Prognosis
After a biopsy, doctors may examine adenocarcinoma tissue under a microscope to see how the cancer cells look compared with healthy cells. This helps determine the cancer grade, which can give more information about how quickly the cancer may grow or spread.
Adenocarcinoma cells may be described as well-differentiated, moderately differentiated, or poorly differentiated. In general, well-differentiated cells look more like normal cells, while poorly differentiated cells look more abnormal and may behave more aggressively. Doctors may also use terms such as intermediate-grade cancer or high-grade cancer when discussing diagnosis, treatment planning, and prognosis.
Stages of Adenocarcinoma Cancer
There are four stages of adenocarcinoma cancer. As noted, they depend upon the location and specific type of cancer. Generally speaking, however, stages I and II are typically slow growth and relatively localized. Stages III and IV involve faster cancer growth, larger tumors, and the quick spread of the cancerous cells to both local and distant organs.
