What Is Throat Cancer?

Throat cancer is a type of head and neck cancer that develops when abnormal cells in the throat, including the pharynx, larynx, or voice box, begin to grow uncontrollably and form a tumor.

How Does it Impact Your Body?

In the early stages of cancer, it affects the local area of the throat and can impact a person’s ability to speak or swallow, depending on the rate of cancerous tumor growth. Left untreated, the tumor cells will spread into the lymph nodes and then local organs, which could ultimately lead to esophageal cancer, oropharyngeal cancer, or even lung cancer. Proper diagnosis and early treatment are essential to prevent serious progression.

At Immunity Therapy Center, we believe the body has an incredible capacity to heal, especially when given the right support. Our non-toxic therapies are designed to treat throat cancer by strengthening the immune system, reducing inflammation, and targeting the cancer cells without compromising healthy tissue.

Throat Cancer Statistics

Every year, more than 15,000 adult men and women will be diagnosed with laryngeal or pharyngeal cancer. These types of cancer, including laryngeal cancer, often require a combination of treatments and comprehensive care. Of these, where it originates is broken down as follows:

  • 60% in the glottis
  • 35% in the supraglottis
  • 5% in the subglottis

What Are the Different Types of Throat Cancer?

Several types of throat cancer exist, each affecting different parts of the throat:

  • Laryngeal cancer – Begins in the larynx (voice box). This is one of the most common forms and may impact a person’s ability to speak.
  • Pharyngeal cancer – Affects the pharynx and is divided into:
    • Nasopharynx (upper part of the throat)
    • Oropharynx (middle throat, including tonsils)
    • Hypopharynx (lower part of the throat)
  • Adenocarcinoma – Starts in the glandular cells lining the throat.
  • Sarcoma – A rare form that begins in the muscle or connective tissues of the neck.

Understanding the specific type helps determine the most effective treatment options.

What Causes Throat Cancer and Who Is at Risk?

It remains unclear why cells in the throat develop genetic mutations that turn into cancer. According to clinical trials, we do know that there are risk factors that can increase the likelihood of developing a throat cancer diagnosis, including:

  • Smoking or chewing tobacco
  • Excessive alcohol use
  • Chronic acid reflux or GERD
  • HPV (human papillomavirus) infection
  • Diet low in fruits and vegetables
  • Family history of head and neck cancer

Maintaining good health habits and addressing these risk factors early can help prevent cancer development. At ITC, we support patients in addressing these risks through education, nutrition, and personalized lifestyle adjustments.

What Are the Common Symptoms of Throat Cancer?

Symptoms of throat cancer can sometimes mimic less serious conditions, which is why early diagnosis is so important. Common signs to watch for include:

  • Persistent sore throat or cough
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Hoarseness or voice changes
  • Ear pain
  • Lump or sore in the neck or mouth that doesn’t heal
  • Weight loss
  • Swollen lymph nodes in the neck

If you or a loved one is experiencing any of these symptoms, our care team is here to help guide you through next steps.

How Is Throat Cancer Diagnosed?

Early and accurate diagnosis is key to choosing the right treatment. Your doctor may use the following tests:

  • Endoscopy or laryngoscopy to view the inside of the throat
  • Biopsy to collect a tissue sample for lab analysis
  • Imaging like CT, MRI, or PET scans to determine tumor location and whether it has spread to lymph nodes or nearby areas
  • HPV testing on biopsy samples

These tools help assess the stage of cancer and create a plan customized for your unique needs.

Can Throat Cancer Be Treated Without Chemotherapy or Radiation?

Recently, scientific progress and advances in cancer research and clinical trials have demonstrated that there are better ways to treat cancer (other than traditional treatment options). Today, any throat cancer patient does not need to rely on harsh methods of targeted therapy or standard treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy, or invasive throat cancer surgery, as their only option for throat cancer treatment.

At Immunity Therapy Center, we offer powerful, non-toxic alternative therapies to conventional chemotherapy and radiation therapy. These natural immunotherapies are designed to treat throat cancer by supporting the body’s ability to identify and eliminate cancer cells while minimizing harmful side effects.

Some of the therapies we offer include:

Rather than use a one-size-fits-all model, we create a personalized treatment plan based on your health history, cancer type, and how your body is responding in real time.
