1
Breast cancer surgery
Breast cancer surgery removes cancer and may be combined with other treatments or used preventively in high-risk patients. The best option depends on cancer size, stage, other therapies, and personal goals.
Types:
Lumpectomy
Mastectomy
Sentinel node biopsy
Breast reconstruction (implants or flap surgery, immediate or later)Goal: remove cancer; reconstruction restores breast shape if desired.
-
2
Colectomy
Colectomy is a surgical procedure to remove all or part of your colon. Your colon, also called your large intestine, is a long tubelike organ at the end of your digestive tract. Colectomy may be necessary to treat or prevent diseases and conditions that affect your colon.
Colectomy surgery usually requires other procedures to reattach the remaining portions of your digestive system and permit waste to leave your body.
-
3
Colorectal cancer surgery
Removes the tumor and nearby healthy tissue, and is the most common treatment.
Options:
- Laparoscopic surgery: uses small incisions and scopes; same effectiveness, faster recovery.
- Colostomy (rectal cancer): creates an abdominal opening for waste; may be temporary or permanent
-
4
Complex pancreatic surgery
(Whipple procedure/pancreaticoduodenectomy) removes the pancreas head, duodenum, gallbladder, and bile duct. It treats tumors and disorders in these organs, most often pancreatic cancer confined to the pancreas head. The surgeon reconnects organs for normal digestion. Though high-risk and complex, it can be lifesaving.
-
5
Cranial base surgery
Minimally invasive method to treat tumors, anomalies, or malformations at the brain’s underside, skull base, and upper spine. Surgeons use natural openings (nose, mouth, above eyes) instead of a craniotomy. Benefits: lower infection and nerve risk, less disfigurement, and faster recovery.
-
6
Craniotomy
Removes and replaces a skull bone flap to reach the brain. When guided by MRI/CT with frames or markers (stereotactic craniotomy), it enables precise targeting and distinction of tumors from healthy tissue.
-
7
Cystectomy
Removes the bladder, often for invasive or recurrent bladder cancer.
- Men: may also remove prostate and seminal vesicles.
- Women: may also remove the uterus, ovaries, and part of the vagina. A urinary diversion is then created to store and pass urine, with several options available.
-
8
Esophageal cancer surgery
Is usually combined with other treatments, often after chemo or radiation to shrink tumors since the disease is often advanced at diagnosis. Minimally invasive techniques are used, and recovery is closely monitored to manage complications and side effects.
-
9
Esophageal reconstruction surgery
Removes part or all of the esophagus, sometimes including the upper stomach, depending on tumor location. A section of small intestine may replace the esophagus (intestinal auto-transplant), often using vascular microsurgery to ensure blood supply.
-
10
Gastrectomy
Is the removal of part or all of the stomach. Removing your stomach doesn’t take away your ability to digest liquids and foods. However, you may need to make several lifestyle changes after the procedure.
Your doctor may recommend a gastrectomy to treat stomach cancer. -
11
Head and neck reconstruction surgery
Microvascular head and neck reconstruction is a technique for rebuilding the face and neck using blood vessels, bone and tissue, including muscle and skin from other parts of the body. The technique is one of the most advanced surgical options available for rehabilitating surgical defects that are caused by the removal of head and neck tumors.
-
12
Hepatectomy
Hepatectomy is the surgical resection or the complete removal of the liver. While this procedure can also be performed to “harvest” healthy liver tissue, it is mostly performed to remove diseased parts of the organ to treat certain conditions such as benign hepatic neoplasms and cancer.
-
13
Hysterectomy
An abdominal hysterectomy is a surgical procedure that removes your uterus through an incision in your lower abdomen. A partial hysterectomy removes just the uterus, leaving the cervix intact. A total hysterectomy removes the uterus and the cervix.
Sometimes a hysterectomy includes removal of one or both ovaries and fallopian tubes, a procedure called a total hysterectomy with salpingo-oophorectomy.
-
14
Laparoscopic gynecological surgery
Gynecologic laparoscopy is an alternative to open surgery. It uses a laparoscope to look inside your pelvic area. Open surgery often requires a large incision. Laparoscopy generally has a shorter healing time than open surgery. It also leaves smaller scars.
Laparoscopy can be used to remove ovaian cysts or tumors, reproductive cancer and other conditions.
-
15
Laparoscopic lymphadenectomy
Removes pelvic lymph nodes, often for staging prostate cancer. Although earlier diagnosis through PSA screening has reduced its use, it remains an important tool in prostate cancer management.
-
16
Laparoscopic gynecological surgery
Uses small abdominal incisions and a camera to view, biopsy, or remove tumors—or even remove the kidney—with specialized instruments. It offers shorter recovery than open surgery but depends on surgeon expertise and isn’t suitable for all patients.
-
17
Laryngectomy
From a cancer perspective, the larynx is divided into three subsites: the supraglottis, glottis, and subglottis. Cancer of the larynx starts in one of these subsites, but it can grow into another subsite.
A laryngectomy is the removal of some or all of the voice box—partial versus total laryngectomy. -
18
Lobectomy
It’s usually the main treatment for people with the early stages of lung cancer, when there’s a tumor in just one part of the lung. In that case, a lobectomy offers the best chance for a cure and may be the only treatment you need. But it doesn't help when cancer has spread to your whole lung or to other parts of your body.
When you have the damaged lobe removed, other parts of your lungs expand, making it easier to breathe.
-
19
Mastectomy
Removes all breast tissue to treat or prevent cancer. For early-stage disease, it’s an alternative to lumpectomy, with both equally effective at preventing recurrence. Some newer approaches, like skin-sparing mastectomy, preserve breast skin for a more natural look. Breast reconstruction may be done immediately or later
-
20
Mesorectal excision surgery
Removes the rectum’s surrounding fatty tissue, blood vessels, and lymph nodes, lowering the risk of local recurrence in advanced rectal cancer. It can impair rectal function and sometimes requires a permanent colostomy, though risks are reduced with experienced surgeons.
-
21
Nephrectomy
Nephrectomy is the surgical removal of a kidney. The procedure is done to treat kidney cancer as well as other kidney diseases and injuries. Nephrectomy is also done to remove a healthy kidney from a donor (either living or deceased) for transplantation.
-
22
Oesophagectomy
Surgery to remove your food pipe is called an oesophagectomy. There are different types of oesophagectomy. The type you have depends on the stage and position of your cancer.
You might have:
- an oesophagectomy – your surgeon removes the part of the oesophagus containing the cancer
- a total oesophagectomy - your surgeon removes your whole oesophagus
- an oesophago-gastrectomy – your surgeon removes the top of your stomach and the part of the oesophagus containing cancer
Your surgeon also removes some of the nearby lymph nodes. This helps to reduce the risk of cancer coming back.
-
23
Orchidectomy
The testicles produce testosterone, which can help prostate cancer grow. So removing the testicles can help to control the growth of prostate cancer. After removal of the testicles, the level of testosterone in the blood falls quickly.
-
24
Pneumonectomy
A pneumonectomy is a type of surgery to remove one of your lungs because of cancer, trauma, or some other condition.
Oxygen is necessary for all functions of your body. Carbon dioxide is a waste product that the body needs to get rid of. Most people can get by with only one lung instead of two, if needed. Usually, one lung can provide enough oxygen and remove enough carbon dioxide.
-
25
Prostatectomy
A prostatectomy is a surgical procedure for the partial or complete removal of the prostate. It may be performed to treat prostate cancer or benign prostatic hyperplasia
-
26
Thymoma surgery
Thymomas are malignant tumors that arise in the thymus gland, typically in the anterior mediastinum. Although considered malignant, most thymomas grow slowly and tend to spread only locally. There is therefore often a very good chance of curing thymomas by either surgery alone or surgery followed by treatments.
-
27
Thyroidectomy
Thyroidectomy is the removal of all or part of your thyroid gland. Your thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of your neck. It produces hormones that regulate every aspect of your metabolism, from your heart rate to how quickly you burn calories.
Thyroidectomy is used to treat thyroid disorders, such as cancer, noncancerous enlargement of the thyroid (goiter), and overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). -
28
Transanal excision surgery
Whenever possible, surgeons aim to preserve sphincter function in rectal cancer patients. The sphincter is the round muscle in the anus that opens and closes to control bowel function. Our experienced colorectal cancer surgeons are trained in advanced transanal excision surgery that spares the sphincter and can greatly improve your quality of life following surgery.
For tumors higher up in the rectum, a similar sphincter-sparing surgery called transcoccygeal surgery may be an option. In this surgery, doctors reach the tumors by going through the tailbone.
-
29
Transurethral resection prostate surgery (TURP)
treats urinary problems from an enlarged prostate. A resectoscope is inserted through the urethra to remove excess tissue blocking urine flow. It’s effective for moderate to severe cases unresponsive to medication, though newer minimally invasive options may offer quicker recovery and fewer complications.

Vertical Gastric Sleeve
Vertical sleeve gastrectomy is a surgery to help with weight loss. The surgeon removes a large portion of your stomach.
The new, smaller stomach is about the size of a banana. It limits the amount of food you can eat by making you feel full after eating small amounts of food.
-
2
Gastric Bypass
Gastric bypass is surgery that helps you lose weight by changing how your stomach and small intestine handle the food you eat.
After the surgery, your stomach will be smaller. You will feel full with less food.
The food you eat will no longer go into some parts of your stomach and small intestine that absorb food. Because of this, your body will not get all of the calories from the food you eat.
-
3
Mini Gastric Bypass
The Mini Gastric Bypass is performed laparoscopically and was developed with the goal of duplicating the excellent weight loss results of traditional Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery while simplifying the procedure, shortening operating times and reducing complications. The Mini Gastric Bypass procedure has gained popularity as the modern alternative to traditional Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery –– excellent results, a simpler, more streamlined procedure and reduced overall complication rates.
Studies have shown that on average, a patient who has the Mini Gastric Bypass procedure, will lose up to 75% of their excess weight and that most of that loss will occur in the first year.

ACL repair
ACL reconstruction is surgery to replace a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) — a major ligament in your knee. ACL injuries most commonly occur during sports that involve sudden stops and changes in direction.
In ACL reconstruction, the torn ligament is removed and replaced with a piece of tendon from another part of your knee or from a deceased donor. This surgery is an outpatient procedure that's performed through small incisions around your knee joint.
-
2
ACL repair with graft
Replaces a torn ligament using a graft made from the patellar tendon, hamstring tendon, or donor tissue. Each option has pros and cons, which the surgeon reviews to choose the best fit for each patient.
-
3
Dynamic Stabilization (Wellex Implant)
Supports the spine in cases of deformity or degenerative discs while preserving some motion—unlike fusion, which stops movement entirely. Recovery is similar to fusion, with most patients resuming normal activities in about six weeks, depending on healing and doctor guidance.
-
4
Hip Replacement
Hip replacement surgery is a procedure in which a doctor surgically removes a painful hip joint with arthritis and replaces it with an artificial joint often made from metal and plastic components. It usually is done when all other treatment options have failed to provide adequate pain relief. The procedure should relieve a painful hip joint, making walking easier.
-
5
Hip Resurfacing
Hip resurfacing is a type of hip replacement which replaces the surfaces of the hip joint. The procedure preserves more bone than a total hip replacement. The head of the femur or 'ball' is not removed but is reshaped to allow a metal cap to be cemented on top of it. The surface of the acetabulum “the socket” is also replaced with a metal implant which is wedged directly into the bone. The resurfacing is made of a cobalt chrome which is highly finished to produce very low wear rates.
-
6
Knee Arthroscopy
Is a surgical technique that can diagnose and treat problems in the knee joint. During the procedure, your surgeon will make a very small incision and insert a tiny camera into your knee. This allows them to view the inside of the joint on a screen. The surgeon can then investigate a problem with the knee and, if necessary, correct the issue using small instruments within the arthroscope.
Our doctors may recommend that you undergo a knee arthroscopy if you’re experiencing knee pain. Your doctor might have already diagnosed the condition causing your pain, or they may order the arthroscopy to help find a diagnosis. In either case, an arthroscopy is a useful way for doctors to confirm the source of knee pain and treat the problem.
-
7
Knee Replacement
Knee replacement, also called knee arthroplasty or total knee replacement, is a surgical procedure to resurface a knee damaged by arthritis. Metal and plastic parts are used to cap the ends of the bones that form the knee joint, along with the kneecap. This surgery may be considered for someone who has severe arthritis or a severe knee injury.
The goal of knee replacement surgery is to resurface the parts of the knee joint that have been damaged and to relieve knee pain that cannot be controlled by other treatments.

8
Meniscus Repair
A meniscal repair is a surgical procedure to repair a torn meniscus via keyhole surgery. It is a minimally invasive procedure often undergone as an outpatient. Factors affecting success include tear age, location and pattern, age of the patient, as well as any associated injuries.
-
9
Minimally Invasive Spinal
Uses small incisions to treat spine conditions with less muscle damage, pain, and recovery time than traditional surgery. It’s recommended only when other treatments fail and the condition is suitable for surgical correction.
-
10
Rotator Cuff Repair
Fixes torn shoulder tendons through open surgery or arthroscopy (small incisions). The rotator cuff’s muscles and tendons stabilize and move the shoulder, but can tear from injury or overuse. Surgery is done under general or regional anesthesia.
-
11
Shoulder Arthrocopy
uses a small camera and instruments inserted through tiny incisions to examine or repair tissues around the shoulder joint. It’s often used for rotator cuff tears caused by injury or overuse. The procedure is done under general or regional anesthesia; severe damage may require open surgery.
-
12
Wrist Arthroscopy
Uses a small camera and instruments through tiny incisions to examine or repair wrist tissues, offering less pain and faster recovery than open surgery. It’s done under general or regional anesthesia, though severe damage may require open surgery.
