El neuroblastoma
El neuroblastoma es una forma de cáncer que se desarrolla en las células nerviosas inmaduras que generalmente se encuentran en el feto o el embrión. Por eso se le conoce como el cáncer de la infancia y se ve con mayor frecuencia en bebés y niños menores de 10 años. Si bien puede desarrollarse en la niñez tardía, el neuroblastoma rara vez se diagnostica en personas mayores de 10 años.
El neuroblastoma suele aparecer en las glándulas suprarrenales y alrededor de ellas, pero este cáncer puede desarrollarse casi en cualquier parte del abdomen. El neuroblastoma puede desarrollarse en el cuello, el pecho y alrededor de la columna vertebral, donde se congregan muchas células de tejido nervioso.
Causas y factores de riesgo
Los cánceres comienzan como una mutación genética que causa que las células sanas crezcan sin control. Las células cancerosas crecen y se multiplican, formando eventualmente un tumor. Cuando el tumor crece puede hacer que los tipos de cáncer se extiendan a otras partes del cuerpo, convirtiéndose en metástasis. El neuroblastoma comienza específicamente en las células nerviosas inmaduras de un feto en desarrollo. Estas células nerviosas inmaduras, conocidas como neuroblastos, generalmente maduran al nacer y se convierten en células nerviosas normales y en las células que componen las glándulas suprarrenales. Sin embargo, los neuroblastos que no maduran pueden convertirse en un tumor.
Se desconoce la causa exacta de esta mutación genética. Los factores hereditarios pueden influir. Y se sabe que casi el 2 por ciento de los casos de neuroblastoma pueden tener una tendencia hereditaria que puede aumentar el riesgo de desarrollar este tipo de cáncer.
Los defectos de nacimiento también pueden aumentar el riesgo de desarrollar un neuroblastoma. El vínculo entre las anomalías congénitas y el neuroblastoma puede estar relacionado con los cambios genéticos que se producen durante el desarrollo del feto.
Detección temprana, diagnóstico y estadificación
Los síntomas del neuroblastoma varían según la ubicación del cáncer. El neuroblastoma en el abdomen puede causar síntomas de dolor abdominal, cambios en los hábitos intestinales y una masa sólida bajo la piel. En el pecho, un neuroblastoma puede causar dolor en el pecho, cambios en los ojos, sibilancias u otros problemas respiratorios.
Otros signos y síntomas comunes del neuroblastoma incluyen:
- Masas bajo la piel
- Protuberancias del globo ocular
- Dolor de espalda
- Dolor de huesos
- Fiebre
- Pérdida repentina de peso/pérdida de apetito
- Círculos oscuros bajo los ojos
El diagnóstico del neuroblastoma suele comenzar con un examen físico para evaluar cualquier signo o síntoma perceptible. El médico también puede solicitar análisis de orina y de sangre. Las pruebas de imagen, como las tomografías computarizadas y las resonancias magnéticas pueden ayudar al médico a localizar el tumor. El médico también puede tomar una biopsia, que ofrece un diagnóstico más concluyente. Las pruebas de médula ósea también pueden determinar si la enfermedad se ha propagado a la médula ósea.
Una vez que el paciente ha sido diagnosticado, el médico procederá a la estadificación. Los estadios del neuroblastoma se designan de 0 a IV. Cuanto más alto es el estadio, más se ha extendido el neuroblastoma a otras partes del cuerpo y es más metastásico.

El neuroblastoma se trata típicamente con cirugía para remover y matar las células cancerosas, junto con drogas de quimioterapia, radioterapia e inmunoterapia. Si bien estas opciones de tratamiento pueden ser efectivas, pueden venir con malos efectos secundarios y síntomas y debilitar al paciente. Lo más importante es que estos tratamientos pueden ser aterradores e intimidantes para los niños con neuroblastoma.

Many patients come to us after going through several rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and other conventional cancer treatments. Our alternative cancer therapy programs are often more effective and have fewer side effects for our patients than those treatments.

Most treatment programs are completed in three weeks. Depending on the stage and condition of your disease, you may require a treatment program of six weeks or more.

Dr. Bautista will evaluate you once your program is complete and recommend follow-up care. Depending on your situation, this may include alternative therapies, medications, and natural supplements you can take at home, or returning to our center in three to six months for further treatment.

Dr. Bautista received formal medical training from Baja California State University in Mexico. He also holds a Masters in Nutrition from the same university. He has worked as a Director for alternative medicine hospitals. Early in his career, Dr. Bautista became interested in alternative cancer therapy and treatments and has studied alternative treatments extensively around the world.

Our alternative, natural treatment programs are completely customized and different for each person. Dr. Bautista personally evaluates each patient to design a holistic, alternative therapy program based on specific needs. He meets with every patient, every day, to monitor and evaluate his or her treatment and progress. This allows him to make immediate adjustments to treatments as needed.

We treat a wide range of patients with a variety of cancer types from stage 1 to stage 4, as well as patients with different autoimmune diseases, chronic degenerative diseases, and infectious diseases. All these factors, as well as previous treatments and medical history, impact individual success and survival rates.
Dr. Bautista will discuss your condition and chance of success during your initial consultation. Many of our patients do go into remission and see enhanced quality of life following treatment.

We highly encourage bringing a friend or family member. Having strong support is an important factor in your treatment success.
Dr. Bautista and our nutritionist will discuss your diet with you during your cancer treatment. Your specific dietary needs may vary, but we encourage you to eat a balanced, organic diet as much as possible.
We have an onsite chef that prepares organic, healthy meals at our center.
Costs and Travel Arrangements
A typical three-week treatment program costs $18,995USD, and includes all therapies, diagnostics, and a healthy, organic, breakfast and lunch (+2 juices/smoothies) Monday – Saturday. Room and other board, travel costs, surgeries, and blood transfusions are not included. Some very specific therapies may not be included. Depending on your stage and condition, you may need six weeks of treatment or more.

We accept major credit cards (some fees may apply), personal and cashier’s checks, wire transfers, and cash. You can also easily PAY ONLINE.
Airfare is not included in the program cost; however, transfers to and from the airport (Tijuana or San Diego) and transportation between our center and your hotel are included.
You may fly into Tijuana, Mexico or San Diego, California. Wewill make arrangements to meet and pick you up at either airport. We are only 25 minutes from the San Diego International Airport. You may also drive to the center. When you schedule your treatment, we will provide detailed driving directions.

If you are undergoing outpatient treatment, you will need to stay in a local hotel or other lodging option during your treatment. We are located near several quality hotels in Tijuana, and have arranged special rates for our patients.
