Crohn’s disease is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) causing inflammation of the lining of the digestive tract, which can lead to abdominal pain, severe diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss, and malnutrition. Digestive tract inflammation varies by individual, and often spreads deep into the layers of affected bowel tissue.
Crohn’s disease can be painful and debilitating, and may have life-threatening complications. There is no known cure, but therapy can greatly reduce symptoms and even bring about long-term remission.
Crohn’s disease symptoms vary greatly, and range from mild to severe:
- Fever and fatigue
- Abdominal pain and cramping
- Bloody stools
- Mouth sores
- Reduced appetite and weight loss
- Perianal disease
